Maunday Thursday Meditations

It is recorded in John 12:27 that Jesus said…

“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.

Today is Thursday of Holy Week.  Tonight Jesus had the Passover Meal with His followers after which he would go to the Garden to pray where He would be arrested.  Prior to these events, the above took place.  In this post is to suggest a few things to contemplate as we approach Resurrection Sunday.

Meditation #1: Jesus was deeply troubled regarding what He knew was about to take place.  Why?

Meditation #2: Jesus didn’t want to be delivered from what he knew was coming (v 27b).  How can we be that way?

Meditation #3: Jesus wanted God to be glorified… no matter what that meant (v 28).  How can God’s glory be our passion in all things?

Meditation #4: Satan was “cast out” (v 31b).  What does that mean and how does it effect us?

Meditation #5: What is the implication for us of verse 32?

Now… read over this passage several times S-L-O-W-L-Y.  Meditate on it asking God to reveal Himself and His truth.  Turn off the TV and contemplate your salvation.  Tomorrow is Friday…
